Bio
Maria del Mar Rosario is a filmmaker from Puerto Rico. In her work she explores themes at the intersection of gender and colonialism, and the poetics of the female body under realist, uncanny aesthetics. She graduated with a BA in Film Studies and Creative Non fiction from Columbia University, and later completed her post graduate studies in documentary directing at the School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.
Her short films have screened at IDFA, HotDocs, Palms Springs, the French Cinematheque and Metrograph, among other venues. She currently lives between New York City and Puerto Rico, where she researches her debut film Punta Salinas. The project was part of the Independent Study Program of the Contemporary Museum of San Juan in 2021 and the Cine Qua Non Lab storyline residency in 2022. Maria del Mar also holds an MFA in Media Arts Production from the City University of New York.
